Supervision protects clients by involving a third party in the work of a counsellor and client helping to reduce the risk of serious oversight and helping the counsellor concerned to reflect on their own feelings and explore a general approach with the client.

Supervision includes clinical and case supervision and offers support that usually depends on the experience and training of the counsellor.  There are three main facets of supervision. Firstly to ensure you are working in an ethical and competent way, secondly to help you as a counsellor to find the appropriate intervention to aid your clients towards their goals - these interventions can vary from using creative tools and exploring irrational beliefs or using immediacy in the counselling process.   Lastly, to ensure that as a counsellor you are getting the necessary support and professional developmental needs.

Supervision offers the following, as a general outline:-

educative support, exploring casework, exploring themes and intractable situations in the process, complex areas of difficulty, insight or perceptions that may bring new awareness, exploring best practice according to ethical guidelines, exploration of subjective material that may be triggered by client work and recognising achievements in the therapeutic process by either the counsellor or client.

I have a standard contract but I am willing to see you for an initial session or part of a session to customize your supervisory requirements, to include your specific needs according to your own needs and way of working that may include your individual experience.  Or if you are happy with the contract provided then we can continue with supervision, as outlined above.

It uses a seven eyed focus. 1) content of therapy - focusing on the client. 2)  strategies and interventions. 3) therapy relationship - interaction between client & therapist. 4} therapy processes - exploring responses. 5}  therapist - supervisor relationship - parallel processes. 6) supervisor processes - feelings involved. 7) wider context - stakeholders or regulating bodies.

My supervision is integrative, drawing from a variety of theories, the main theories that I have training and experience in are; Attachment theories, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, aspects of Gestalt, Inner Child theories, Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness, Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Sensorimotor and Transactional Analysis.

My areas of specialism are with bereavement, relational issues including couple-work, complex trauma, including PTSD and working with dissociate identity disorder. Other areas are OCD, eating disorders, self harm and pregnancy issues.  These issues may involve loss, grief, depression, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem, guilt, shame, rejection, abandonment and working around conflict resolution.
